Barbara Lee Davis Walpole, 70, was taken to Heaven unexpectedly on April 22, 2021, with her loving husband, Vance, at her side.
Barbara was born on October 3, 1950, in Houston, TX, to Carl and Edith Davis. She was raised in Houston, where she attended school, eventually calling Sugar Land her long-term home. Barbara loved God and was a devoted wife, mom and “Sugar” (grandmother). She came from a large family, being one of five children, and she always desired to have a large family of her own one day. In 1971, she fell head over heels in love with Vance, whom she loved with all her heart. God blessed them with three girls, completing their family and family was everything to Barbara.
In 1979, she and Vance opened their first of three full-service hair salons – affectionately named, The Barbara Shop. They worked together, side-by-side for her entire career. She loved cutting hair and often joked that she was a better barber than Vance. For more than 30 years, she served the community as a barber-stylist, cutting generations of hair for families.
Barbara was a pillar in the community for the service industry. Despite her industriousness, she was a devoted mother, always attending school field trips, church plays, and soccer, basketball and volleyball games. But most importantly, she raised her girls to know, love and follow Jesus Christ. She remained an active member at Sugar Creek Baptist Church until her passing.
Barbara was a strong believer, steadfast in her faith. She was a constant source of joy, a ray of sunshine who was always full of life. She was simple but elegant, always a lady. Barbara was a strong woman and the very definition of a survivor. She had a smile that was as big as Texas, always kind and loving. Barbara laughed until she cried, and she never let anyone cry alone. She always kept her heart open for others. She was a rock and an inspiration. To her family and those who knew her, Barbara was pure unconditional love.
Barbara is survived by her beloved husband, Vance Walpole; her three daughters, Vonna Taylor (Nick), Amber Anthony (Tony), and Brittany Walpole. Surviving siblings are Carolyn Zischang, Verna McClelland, and Edy Hicks. Surviving grandchildren are Trace, Allister, Rivers and Rainn, and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her dad and mom, Carl and Edith Davis, her little brother, Raymond Davis and her sister-in-law, Jody Apgar.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, April 30, 2021, at Sugar Creek Baptist Church, 13213 Southwest Freeway in Sugar Land, with a Celebration of Barbara’s life to begin at 11:00 am. Immediately following, friends are invited to a reception with the family in the Fellowship Hall.
