Camille Tamborello Hill passed away on Monday, April 18th, 2022. She was born on December 24th, 1936, in Houston, Texas to Dorothy and Joseph Tamborello, the middle child of eleven.
Camille attended Holy Rosary and St. Agnes Academy in Houston. She was crowned "Campus Queen" by Lawrence Welk at Loyola University in New Orleans. Camille taught elementary school in Oklahoma City for many years while also taking evening classes to earn her Masters in Special Education. She moved back to Houston in 1979 where she taught special needs children and later became a teacher trainer for HISD.
Camille was creative, active, adventurous, fiercely independent and a bit rebellious - traits she passed on to her children and grandchildren. She loved going to gallery openings and art events, and was especially fond of The Menil Collection and the Chapel of St. Basil. Constantly on the move, she enjoyed line dancing, tennis, yoga, brisk walks, learning French and taking art classes. She was keen to travel, eager to find new restaurants, and avidly researched the latest health trends.
Most of all, she loved her children and grandchildren, who called her "Cammie". She cherished her trips to Paris, LA, Austin and Belgium to visit them. The educator in her was always encouraging them to try new things and expand their horizons.
Camille will be missed for many things, especially greeting family at the airport wearing a cowboy hat, waving a Texas flag and flashing her big smile.
Cammie is survived by her four children and their spouses: Bren Tully and husband Jeff, Pat Hill and wife Celeste, Colleen Hill-Bataille and husband Clement, and Art Hill and wife Dominique; her grandchildren: Wrigley Tully, Harper Hill, Trey Hill, Antonin Bataille, Sienna Bataille, Alexander Hill and Anaïs Hill; and her siblings: Marie Aydam, Punkin Goodman, Sissie O'Connell, Sam Tamborello and his wife Carol.
A vigil will be held on Friday, April 29th, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Chapel of St. Basil on the University of St. Thomas campus. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 30th, at 11:00 AM at the same location. Burial will immediately follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
