Obituary for Daisy Belle Romans

Daisy Belle Barnaby, was born on June 15, 1945, and promoted to Glory on March 2, 2021. Her parents were the late Alvin Barnaby and Ivy Vaccianna. Daisy was nurtured by her grandmother Mary Spence, in the small district of Happy Retreat, Westmoreland, Jamaica. Daisy attended Enfield All Age school where she made many friends. Her grandmother took her to The Salvation Army Temple Corp in her local community and there she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. She also discovered her gift of singing.

Daisy had a love for sewing. She asked her grandmother to send her to “Mrs. Cox Sewing School” to perfect the vocation. At the age of 14, Daisy was reunited with her father, and relocated to Savanna-la-mar, where she met her Aunt Winifred Foote and worked in the family business.

As a young dedicated Corp Cadet, and Senior Soldier, she mentored the youths and led several activities for their development. In 1967 she took the call of officership and followed in the footsteps of her aunt Brigadier Louise Violet Crooks, at the Spanish Town Temple Corp. She attended The Salvation Army Training College, Caribbean Territory, in Kingston, Jamaica, and graduated as a Salvation Army Officer, she was “SAVED TO SERVE.”

Daisy began her work as a Lieutenant in various Salvation Army Corps across the island. During that time, she ministered to her fellow man. A few years later, she became very ill and had to return home for recovery. She continued her work for the Lord in the Montego Bay Temple Corp and the Savanna-La-Mar Temple Corp. She also joined the “Westmoreland Singers” and performed in many locations. She started her own home-based business, as a dressmaker, selling household cleaners and cosmetics.

She fell in love and married Gerald Romans and the union produced one child, Glenora. Daisy experienced heartbreak in the early years of the marriage, when her husband died. As a widow and single mother she raised her daughter to the best of her knowledge.

She migrated to Houston, Texas, in the United States of America, in 2004 and later became a citizen. She joined the Houston International Corp, and continued her service as a Songster. She worked as a caregiver of children and the elderly. Her work has touched the lives of several families, and has taken her to various states such as Florida, Virginia, New York, and New Jersey. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, friend and Salvation Army soldier. Her hobbies were singing, playing the piano, dancing, sewing, cooking, crocheting, and traveling.

Left to mourn are daughter, Glenora Iceline Romans, Grandsons KéVaughn Tarrel Waldon, Jordan Thomas Harvey, granddaughter, Raine Aliciana Harvey.
