Obituary for Dorothy Chandler (Lanmon)

Dorothy Lanmon Chandler, 96, of Houston, Texas, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2019. Dorothy was born August 12, 1922 in Houston, TX to Cecil Phifer Lanmon and Lydia B. Lanmon.
She was baptized at the age of 10 at Woodland Baptist Church and later joined West University Baptist Church. She attended Travis Elementary, Hogg Junior High and graduated in 1940 from Reagan High School. She graduated from Rice University in 1944. She joined South Main Baptist Church on May 11, 1944 where she met her future husband, Walter Clifford Chandler, Jr. They were married on February 12, 1949 at South Main.
She is survived by daughters, Mary Lynn Stewart and her husband, Charles of Fort Worth, TX, and Gail Musgrove and her husband, Gordan of Houston, TX, and daughter-in-law, Dana Chandler Ripinski and husband, Sam of Lantana, TX; grandchildren, Bryan Stewart and wife, Lindsay, Chase Stewart and wife, Leslie, Laurie Batson and husband, Shane, Scott Stewart and wife, Ashley, Graham Musgrove and wife, Erin, Melodie and Mollie Musgrove; great grandchildren, Brody and Laney Stewart, Ella, Emma and Jacob Batson, Nolan and Hank Musgrove, Avery Thompson (daughter of Walter Clifford Chandler IV “Ford”); Brother C. P. ”Pete” Lanmon II and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Lydia Lanmon; husband, Walter Clifford Chandler, Jr.; son, Walter Clifford Chandler III and grandson, Walter Clifford “Ford” Chandler IV.
Honorary pallbearers are Cliff Nickel, Cliff Brunson, Charles Wilson, Herman Bolton, Bill Pugh, James “Chief” Pharries and Cecil Washington.
The family would like to thank Ruby and Aisha of The Eldercare Network for their loving care of Dorothy in her last days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to South Main Baptist Church.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 15th, 2019 at South Main Baptist Church, 4100 South Main St., immediately followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall.
