Obituary for Mary Nell Giere

MARY NELL WHITWORTH GIERE, 91, passed at 5:02 a.m. on September 12, 2020. She was born November 4, 1928 in Corpus Christi, Texas, the first child of Marvin James and Myrtle Sarah Whitworth. A loving daughter, mother, pianist and teacher, and pastor’s wife, Mary Nell served throughout her lifetime in the ministry of our Lord and Savior from an early age. After marriage to John H. Giere, Jr., in 1947, they began pastoring churches in the Texas District of the Assemblies of God; San Benito, Taylor, Hamilton, Fairfield, Houston and Spring. They retired from full-time pastoral service in 1978. After retirement, they became more active than ever, traveling in missionary endeavors to the American Indian Bible Institute, Arizona, to the International Correspondence Institute, Belgium, and separate missionary outreaches in West Africa and Paraguay, South America. In addition, John and Mary Nell served as interim pastors at churches in Corpus Christi, Waco, Bloomington, Boerne and Lumberton. They continued on the road again as Southwest Regional Directors of the RV Maps Volunteers Program, coordinating and overseeing over fifty (50) church construction projects. Mary Nell is preceded in death by parents, Marvin James and Myrtle Sarah O’Neal Whitworth; husband, John H. Giere, Jr.; brother Robert Lee Whitworth; brothers-in-law, Robert Edward McWha, Sr., and Boyd Burnett Giere; sisters-in-law, Frances Wynell Giere and Billie Giere; granddaughter, Haley Nicole Giere; great-grandson Micah Karl Traylor; niece, Karen Faith Giere and nephews, Boyd Burnett Giere, Jr. and William Wayne McWha; She is survived by daughter Brenda Juanell Giere White and husband, H. Wayne White of Conroe; grand-daughter Sarah McKinsey Jones and husband, Andrew Jones of The Woodlands and great-grands Oliver Henry, Jack Cameron and Penelope Marie Jones; son Karl Edward Giere and wife, M. Ellen Giere, and grandson Preston Nathaniel Giere of Fort Worth; grand-daughter Amanda Joe Traylor and husband, Matthew Traylor, of The Woodlands, and great-grands Noah Wilson, Olivia Maude, and Sophia Corinne Traylor; grandson Joshua Karlton Giere and wife, Amber Giere, of Ft. Worth, great-grands Bennett Josiah, Atticus Joshua, Bryn Ellen-Ann and Adelyn Pearl Giere; grand-daughter Alanna Jonel Pears and husband, Daniel Pears, of Springfield, Mo., great-grands Jacob Daniel and Kayleigh Elizabeth Pears; son Kendall Van Giere of The Woodlands, grandson Jon Brandon Giere and wife, Jennifer Giere, of Spring, great-grand Alexis Paityn Giere; grandson Shaun Nicholas Giere and wife, Meridith Giere, of Spring, great-grands Styhlor Drake Barnes and Kyrah Nicole-Van Giere; sisters-in-law, Nona Whitworth of Waco; Dorothy Jean McWha, of Temple, brother-in-law George Wesley Giere and wife, Joan Giere of Driftwood; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly, and a host of friends.
