Obituary for Ruth Dougherty

Ruth passed peacefully at home after a long fulfilling life on Thursday, the 18th of May 2023.

Ruth was one of four children born to Mary Moynihan and John William Castagnetti on Staten Island, NY. A devout Catholic, Ruth was a member of the Newman Circle and the Charity Guild of Catholic Women as well as a longtime volunteer at The San Jose Clinic and the Villa de Matel.

Ruth married Jack Francis Dougherty in Smoke Rise, NJ, before moving to Houston in 1961. In addition to her biggest joy of raising five children, Ruth was an avid patron of the arts and loved entertaining in her home. She enjoyed traveling the world pursuing her passion for learning and adventure, her Irish Italian heritage, and Jack’s interests in archeology.

Ruth’s infectious smile, boundless love, vivacity, elegance, and endless pursuit of a life well lived will be missed by many, and she will live on through the memories we shared along the way.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Jack F. Dougherty, her parents and her siblings. She is survived by her children William Dougherty (Charlotte), Marisue Tallichet (George), Patrick Dougherty, Lisa Dougherty, Erin Hawkins (Clay), her stepdaughter Christine Dougherty, her grandchildren Stuart Tallichet (Ashley), Michel Tallichet, Jacqueline Tallichet (Adam Sirkus), Camille Tallichet (Ian Dyer), Matthew Hawkins, and Sarah Hawkins, great grandchildren Evey and Madeleine Tallichet; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will take place from 5:00 to 6:00 pm on Tuesday, May 23rd at the Chapel of St. Basil at the University of St. Thomas, 3802 Yoakum Blvd, Houston, TX 77006. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, May 24th, 2023.
