Obituary for Sylvia Lois Brandt (Brodbeck)

Sylvia Lois Brodbeck Brandt

Seldom has God blessed so many lives through one woman

Sylvia Lois Brodbeck Brandt, affectionately called Mimi, loving mother of three, and devoted wife to late husband Jerry Brandt, passed away at age 82 in the early morning hours of May 21st at her home, surrounded by all of her children. Sylvia was born December 8th, 1939 in Rocky Creek Community in Texas, to Alfred and Lonie Brodbeck. She was raised in a close and loving, Christian family with three siblings, Aaron Brodbeck, Lillian Brodbeck Arnold, and Sherman Brodbeck.

As a child, Sylvia spent most of her time roaming the hills and creeks in the countryside. She was a curious child full of questions for God. Sylvia’s artistic abilities were birthed there during her visits with God. She sketched and studied nature, and she wrote her first songs. By the time Sylvia was 11 years old she developed a beautiful singing voice and became a pianist for the church.

Sylvia dearly loved her children, Tina Derene’ Wiltse, Stacy Dawn Johnson, and Russell Wade Wells, her son in laws, Jerry Johnson and David Wiltse as well as her 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was a doting mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, teacher, counselor, comforter, encourager, and defender for all of them. Sylvia instilled in them what it truly means to have a relationship with God instead of just following a religion. Known for her nuggets of wisdom, she always said, “A mother’s duties are the most important and valuable call from God.”

Sylvia was a guiding light and source of inspiration, steadfast and unwavering in her values. Her advise was godly and wise. Sylvia was truly a Proverbs 31 woman, dedicated to God and those she loved. She gave love freely and shared her faith wherever she went. She lived a life of service to others. Sylvia was a dedicated caregiver to her husband for 20 years, as well as several family members and friends. She often cooked meals for others, cleaned their homes or worked in their yards. Sylvia often bought meals for the homeless, gave money or drinks to lawn crews, repairmen and garbage collectors.

Sylvia loved her Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church family. She was faithful in tithing and offerings, enjoyed working the connection center on Sundays when she could, delighted in helping with Kid’s Meals, treasured Bible Study Discussion classes, and cherished all of her beloved friends.

Sylvia will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Special thanks to friends, neighbors, and MDPC church family who faithfully checked on her, brought her meals and tended her needs.
