Obituary for Tim Alison Womack

Much beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and son departed from our midst this past Friday, August 26th. Tim Womack fought bravely against an aggressive and fast-moving disease; he is now in the arms of his Savior who he loved and served.

Tim was born and raised in Camden, Arkansas on June 28, 1953, the son of Elizabeth “Amy” and J.A. “Dooley” Womack. His parents instilled in him an exceptional work ethic, a warm compassionate spirit, and a love of sports and music. After high school he attended Hendrix College and Henderson State University to obtain his bachelor’s degree. A passion for fairness and justice led Tim to law school at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. After graduating he started a thriving law practice in Camden where he found immense pride in serving his clients and community.

One of his greatest callings in life was being a dedicated and loving father to his sons Wesley and Taylor, and he took much joy in raising his family in his hometown of Camden. In 2010, he married a beautiful Houstonian named Karen. Tim courageously traded his longtime hometown for a much larger city. Shortly after moving to Houston, he joined St. Martin’s Episcopal Church and was active with the Men of St. Martin’s Bible Study. Karen and Tim spent many wonderful years together traveling the world and watching their family grow. They had an amazing partnership; Karen was by his side for many great moments right up until he was called to his great reward.

Tim had a quick-witted sense of humor, was a fierce competitor, an expert storyteller, and a gifted counselor, both professionally and personally. He affected innumerable lives for the better. His warm inviting demeanor was magnetic and drew in a deep circle of life-long friendships. His passion for life was enhanced by his love of sports, whether the Astros, Cardinals, or Razorbacks. Tim was an avid fan who used these events to build relationships throughout his life. Tim deeply appreciated the outdoors; hiking, golf, and bunny hunts with his grandchildren were some of his favorite ways to celebrate God’s creation. Above all was his love and loyalty to his family.

Tim was preceded in death by his father J.A. “Dooley” Womack. He is survived by his wife, Karen Brookshire Womack; sons, Wesley Womack and wife Brooke, Taylor Womack and wife Julie, Lance Gilliam and wife Kirsten, Matthew Gilliam and wife Haley; mother, Elizabeth “Amy” Womack; brothers, Lance Womack and wife Carolyn, Cary Don Womack and wife Margaret; sister, Anna Teagarden and husband Joe; grandchildren, Jackson Womack, Addy Womack, Mary Margaret Womack, Witt Womack, Greer Gilliam, Margot Gilliam, Vivian Womack and Bonnie Gilliam; nephews and nieces, Jacob Womack, Erin Ready and husband Justin, Josh Fuller and wife Catherine, Kate Teagarden and Leah Teagarden.

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. September 2 at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston Texas. The service will be officiated by the Reverend Wesley Arning and assisted by Reverend Richard Elwood. Dr. Wick Stucky, the Senior Associate Pastor at Chapelwood UMC, will offer the homily. Those unable to attend can watch via live stream at (http://stmartinepiscopal.org/funerals/). Immediately following the service, friends are invited to join the family for a reception in the adjacent Bagby Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in remembrance of Tim to CanCare (https://www.cancare.org/) or the Hope and Healing Center at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church (https://hopeandhealingcenter.org/). The family thanks Dr. Jorge Darcourt and gratefully acknowledges the loving support of Celine and the caregivers at Houston Hospice.
