Obituary for Valerie Crenshaw Roberts

Valerie Crenshaw Roberts went to be with the Lord surrounded by family and her dear caretakers Friday morning November 4th in Houston, Texas.

Val was born to Troy Odell Crenshaw and Annie Rogers Crenshaw on March 23, 1931 in Houston, Texas. She was a graduate of Jeff Davis High School and attended Liberty Road Baptist Church in the East Houston. At Liberty Road, Val professed her faith and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior; her entire family was baptized together.

Val began working when she was 12 years old at Weiner’s department store. She went to work to help her family as times were tough. She kept that steady work ethic her entire life working various jobs from Exxon Mobile, Lone Star Door, Caretake for the Elderly, and in Registration for Houston Community College. The bulk of her career was spent in the accounts payable department for Houston Community College, where she retired in 2010.

Val has two daughters, Ann Elizabeth, and Laurie Sue. Four Grand Children, Scott, Troy, Tyler and Elizabeth.

Valerie loved to travel going on many cruises, road trips, and adventures. Even day trips to Fairfield to get a slice of coconut pie from Sam’s Restaurant. Val loved to play cards and dominos. She spent many nights with friends laughing around a card table. She spent much of her free time with her grandkids, going to school events, hosting grandkid sleepovers and even just a good trip to Schlitterbahn.

In the last years of her life Valerie moved closer to her family. She spent her days sharing ice cream with her great grandchildren, watching her favorite show Reba, singing songs, enjoying her backyard with the squirrels and other wildlife and sitting at the corner watching the neighbors coming and going with one of her sweet caretakers.

Lazybrook/ LifeBrook Church was an instrumental part of Vals life, being a member for over 57 years. She lived her life reminding others of Gods everlasting faithfulness. She spent many years as a Sunday school teacher for the Kindergarten department. She also served the Lord faithfully as a Girls in Action Leader, Nursery Worker and the Clown for every Fall Festival, and a joyful Greeter on Sunday morning.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Helen Lawson and Maxine Breed. Brothers-in-law Jack Lawson and John Breed and her best friend Margaret Pratt.

She is survived by her children, Ann and husband Hal Werlein of Trinity, Texas. Laurie and husband Jimmy Haney, of Houston. Grandchildren, Troy Haney, Elizabeth and husband Mark Leitko, Scott Werlein and wife Pamela Golden and Tyler Werlein.

Great Grandchildren- Luke and Beau Leitko, Jared and Justin Werlein

A Special thanks to her friends who she considered family at LifeBrook Church and to our amazing caretakers Amy, Elena, Lillie and Peggy who made sure the last few years have been filled with more joy than we could have imagined.
