Obituary

On Monday, August 3, 2020, Eduardo “Ed” Sazo Garcia, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle joined our Lord in heaven at the age of 77.

Ed was born in Davao City, Philippines on April 27, 1943 – the first of ten siblings – to Carlos and Cresencia Garcia.

Ed graduated in 1962, B.A. in Philosophy at St Francis Xavier, Davao City and 1968, B.S. Chemical Engineering at USC, Cebu City and worked in chemical industry for over 50 years.

Ed married the love of his life, Tessie Lim, on December 22, 1979. Together, they raised two children, Karla Chris and Franz Josef. Ed delighted in them and proudly shared their talents and accomplishments with everyone around him. He experienced a new kind of happiness when Franz and his wife Lauran grew the family with the first grandchild, Vedder James.

Ed was a man dedicated to uplifting and enriching the lives of those around him, patient and untiring in his love. He made sacrifice after sacrifice, including working nightshift when the family first migrated to Houston. He worked in Ashland Chemicals as production supervisor an hour from home, and gave it all for his family. He never failed to call home every night no matter how busy he was at work. So much was shared through the phone – homework problems, athletic and musical accomplishments, all of life’s ups and downs – but most of all love. Even if he only had five minutes to spare, Ed made sure to make that call and say, “I love you. Good night.”

Ed was also a man of God. He united his love of knowledge and his Catholic faith through steadfast involvement at St. Matthew the Evangelist Catholic Church. He acted as one of the Lectors for 10am mass; chaired the Filipino Community Activities group; handled classes for the parents and godparents of those to be baptized; and previously taught Sunday School for high school students. His students loved him, and many made a point to say hello to him and his family after mass even when classes were not in session. He was a proud and active member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was a cherished member of Families For Christ, a weekly prayer and devotion group. Through all of these activities, he constantly reminded the group “Pray the rosary and put Jesus Christ always the center of your lives”. He always prayed for the guidance of the Holy Spirit on how best to share the words of God. Ed channeled the love of God by being wise mentor, caring father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and dear friend to all those around him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Saint Matthew the Evangelist Catholic Church at 11 o’clock a.m.

Flowers or donations may be sent to the church at 9915 Hollister Street, Houston, Texas.
